The International Glossary below relates to services and surcharges that may apply or are optional to the services.

Services


Name Description
Priority Alert - Package/Freight Priority Alert Package/Freight is a specialised, fee-based and contract-only service specifically designed for customers requiring a high degree of shipment visibility and delivery compliance. By combining special boarding, enhanced shipment status tracking and operational recovery procedures, FPA provides an enhanced and reliable solution for your shipment. Please note that all requests need to be reviewed prior to acceptance in order to confirm service compliance and availability
Priority Alert Plus - Package/Freight Priority Alert Plus includes all the features of Priority Alert Package/Freight as well as pro-active intervention capabilities for temperature sensitive shipments. With Priority Alert Plus, re-icing, gel pack replenishments & cold storage are included as standard in the service. Please note that all requests need to be reviewed prior to acceptance in order to confirm service compliance and availability.
On-demand Care - Package/Freight On Demand Care (ODC) is a fee-based service for non-food items providing intervention services such as Dry Ice replenishment and gel pack reconditioning/ exchange, to protect the integrity of temperature-controlled shipments delayed in-transit. This service is not available at all locations. This service is not guaranteed and is subject to the identification of the shipment and must be booked via Customer Service.


Surcharges


Name Description
Address correction If a recipient’s address on an Air Bill, Air Waybill or shipping label is incomplete or incorrect, we may attempt to find the correct address and complete delivery, and we will assess a surcharge. If we cannot complete delivery, we are not liable for failing to meet our delivery commitment.
Third-Party Billing

Third-Party Billing Surcharge will apply to shipments billed to a third party. The surcharge will be charged to the third-party payer.

The surcharge applies when the shipper account number and the third-party billing account number are not part of the same company, as determined by New Zealand Couriers

Third Party Consignee Third Party Billing Surcharge will apply to shipments that are billed to a third party. The surcharge will be charged to the third-party payer. The surcharge applies when the shipped raccount number and the third party billing account number are not part of the same company, as determined by New Zealand Couriers.
 International Broker Select This surcharge applies when a broker clears the shipment, the shipment is picked up at the customer's broker location and delivered to the final consignee or the consignee's location is served by a different clearance point than the broker's.
Out of Pickup Area Surcharge (OPA) & Out of Delivery Area Surcharge (ODA) For shipments to areas outside where its couriers pick up and deliver cargo. (OPA and ODA Surcharges are not applied to 10kg or 25kg Box shipments.)
Indirect Signature Required (ISR) New Zealand Couriers will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address or somebody nearby, such as a neighbour or building manager. The recipient can authorize the shipment to be released without anyone present. Applicable to U.S./Canada residential destinations with a declared value for Carriage less than USD500/CAD500 shipment.
Direct Signature Required (DSR) Someone at the recipient’s address must sign for the delivery. Direct signature deliveries are made to the address on the mailing label, not to an individual recipient.
Adult Signature Required (ASR) New Zealand Couriers will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address who is at least the age of majority (no longer a minor) in the destination country. Government-issued photo identification or other identification customarily accepted by local authorities is required.
Residential Delivery Surcharge A residential delivery charge applies to shipments addressed to a home or private residence, including locations where a business is operated from home or to any shipment where the shipper has designated the delivery address as a residence. If the ODA Surcharge is applied to a shipment, the Residential Delivery Surcharge will not apply.
Accessible Dangerous Goods
Inaccessible Dangerous Goods Inaccessible dangerous goods include Class 6.1, 6.2, 7, and 9.
Additional Handling Surcharge - Dimension This applies to any package that measures greater than 121 cm along its longest side, greater than 76 cm along its second-longest side; or greater than 266 centimetres in length and girth. If the Oversize Charge is applied to a package, the Additional Handling Surcharge - Dimension will not apply.
Additional Handling Surcharge - Freight This surcharge applies to any freight handling unit that measures greater than 157 cm along its longest side.
Oversize Charge This surcharge applies to a package that exceeds 243 cm in length or 330 cm in length and girth.
Non-Stackable Surcharge This surcharge applies to any non-stackable freight handling unit, which means the piece, skid, or pallet cannot be stacked vertically safely and securely. Examples include but are not limited to, non-stackable freight handling units that 1) do not have a flat and stable top or base, 2) may be damaged if another piece is loaded on them, or 3) have flat and stable loading surfaces but are too narrow to safely and securely support other freight handling units (e.g. 1-2 barrels or drums).
Dry Ice Surcharge If a shipment contains both dry-ice and dangerous goods (accessible or inaccessible), only dangerous goods surcharge applies, and dry-ice surcharge is not applied.
Maximum Declared Value for Carriage (may vary by destination Declared Value Charge for Carriage: Liability of New Zealand Couriers for loss, damage or delay of your shipment is limited to the greater of about USD20.00 per kilogram or USD100.00 per shipment. The limitation may be expressed in Special Drawing Rights or local currency, and the exact amount will vary depending on the country/ territory of origin and currency.

If you desire that New Zealand Couriers assume liability for a greater percentage of the actual cargo value, you must declare the value for carriage on your air waybill and pay a “declared value surcharge”.

Services


Name Description
Duty Tax Paid At the customer’s request, New Zealand Couriers International clears the shipment at the destination and arranges for the applicable import duties, taxes, and regulatory charges to be invoiced to a specified New Zealand Couriers International account at the origin or third country rather than the receiver of the shipment being billed at the destination. The duty taxpayer will be invoiced an extra charge based on a flat rate or a percentage of the paid fiscal charges.
Shipment Insurance Additional financial protection in the event of shipment physical damage or loss. Protection is effective from the time New Zealand Couriers International Express has control or possession of the shipment until the time of delivery. Subject to specific limitations and exclusions.
Extended Liability Service provides extended coverage and compensation beyond New Zealand Couriers International Express standard liability in case of shipment loss or damage when sending valuable documents such as passports, visa applications or regulatory certificates.
Adult Signature The delivery of a shipment to an adult, against the adult person's signature at the delivery address.
Direct Signature Upon customer request, New Zealand Couriers International will obtain a signature from the receiver or a representative at the delivery address. New Zealand Couriers International will ensure your shipment is not re-directed, or delivered at an alternative address.
Residential Address Customers shipping to a home or private residence can activate specific delivery options by designating the delivery address as Residential. For shipments designated as Residential Addresses, New Zealand Couriers International Express will proactively notify the receiver via email or SMS about the shipment’s progress. Receivers can select the best delivery option that suits their requirements via the On Demand Delivery website.
Duty Tax Processing At the customer’s request, New Zealand Couriers International clears the shipment at the destination and arranges for any applicable import duties, taxes, and regulatory charges to be invoiced to the importer's specified New Zealand Couriers International account at the destination. The duty taxpayer will be invoiced an extra charge based on a flat rate or a percentage of the advanced fiscal charges.
Clearance Authorisation This applies when the designated importer has requested to be contacted by New Zealand Couriers International before customs clearance is initiated. Charges are to be applied against any import where New Zealand Couriers International is required to intercept the inbound process and contact an importer where there is no indication on the shipment paperwork or regulatory requirements to do so.
Bonded Storage Storage charges apply when Customs cannot release the shipment due to inaccurate or missing paperwork. Charges take effect three calendar days after the freight arrival date or broker notification, whichever is later. The charge applies to the duty and taxes payer.
Bonded Transit At the customer's request, a shipment's transit is under a customs bond. This can arise when delivering ship spares to a foreign ship at anchor, aircraft parts to an aircraft on the ground, or to a customer's bonded warehouse. Can also apply when shipments move domestically from/to a Free Trade Zone /Bonded Warehouse.
Temporary Import Export When requested by the shipper or importer, New Zealand Couriers International prepares the merchandise or goods for their temporary export and later import. Raw or semi-finished materials can be imported into a Customs’ approved Export Processing Zone or Free Trade Zone for value-adding activities, provided the finished goods are subsequently exported.
Release To Broker At the shipper or importer's request, the release of a New Zealand Couriers International Express shipment to the customer's designated customs broker of choice. New Zealand Couriers International will transfer the responsibility for a shipment and related customs documentation to the customer-nominated broker for clearance and last-mile delivery.
Post Clearance Modification Optional service that applies in case of subsequent adjustment/modification of an existing customs declaration along with the application to refund assessed duties upon Customer’s request.

 

Surcharges


Elevated Risk A surcharge is applied when shipping to a destination country, New Zealand Couriers International is operating at elevated risk due to a continuous state of war, civil unrest, or continuous threats from terrorism. The list of destination countries in scope is published online as part of the respective surcharge table.
Restricted Destination A surcharge applies when shipping goods to or importing from a country subject to specific trade restrictions imposed by the UN Security Council. The list of countries in scope is published online as part of the respective surcharge table.
Address Correction This fixed surcharge is applied to any shipment with an incorrect delivery address at the time of pickup. The delivery cannot be fulfilled after making efforts at the destination to determine the correct address. This surcharge applies to domestic and international shipments.
Remote Area Pickup A surcharge is applied per shipment when the pickup location is remote, and the transport charges are billed to the account holder at the destination or in a third country. Remote is defined as islands and highlands, a postcode/zip code that is difficult to serve; or a suburb/town that is distant, inaccessible or infrequently served.
Remote Area Delivery A surcharge is applied per shipment when the delivery destination location is remote. Remote is defined as islands and highlands, or a postcode/zip code that is difficult to serve; or a suburb/town that is distant, inaccessible or infrequently served.
Data Entry A surcharge applies for each shipment with non-electronic, paper-based manual house waybills. Electronic shipping documentation incurs no additional charges.
Multiline Entry The clearance of a shipment with multiple commodities or origins for the same commodity. Charges apply when more than 5 lines are recorded on the customs clearance, for example, with different commodities or countries of manufacture.
Non-Routine Entry Applied in selected countries when importing goods with an aggregated declaration value or weight exceeding the limits set by destination customs authorities or due to other regulatory requirements that are excluded from routine clearance procedures.
Broker Notification At the shipper or importer's request, New Zealand Couriers International will provide the necessary paperwork to the customers designated broker to perform the import clearance and resume the delivery to the final destination once the clearance is completed.
Physical Intervention Arrangements beyond the presenting to Customs of a shipment/piece for standard physical inspection. Examples include the full or part unloading of a vehicle; the specific marking of prototypes, the mutilation of samples, the examination of parts.
Permits & Licences To accelerate the import of selected controlled commodities, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, computer monitors, laser CD players, cosmetics, eyeglasses, and food products, New Zealand Couriers International is required to file specific information to obtain the required import permits or licenses.
Export Declaration This applies in countries where an export declaration is required for shipments containing controlled commodities or exceeding a certain value threshold or weight. Shippers that submit a declaration online may avoid the local charge depending on the origin country.
Preferential Origin At Shipper’s request, the preparation or provision of a Certificate of Origin or other similar forms by New Zealand Couriers International to certify the goods in a particular export shipment have been produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country, allowing preferential rates of duty to be claimed at the destination. Common examples are EUR1, Form A, ATR1. (Formerly known as Certificate of Origin.)
Oversize Piece A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, with a single dimension in excess of 120cm (48 inches).
Overweight Piece A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, that exceeds a scale or volumetric weight of 70kg (150 lb.)
Non-Stackable Pallet A fixed surcharge is applied to every pallet in a shipment that cannot be stacked, either on the shipper's request or by the shape, content or packaging of the goods on the pallet. The Non-Stackable Pallet surcharge applies to domestic and international shipments.
Duty Tax Processing This service covers any import of a non-document shipment for which New Zealand Couriers International has used its own credit line with Customs to advance or guarantee the payment of duties, taxes or regulatory charges on behalf of importers and consumers with whom New Zealand Couriers International has no contract. An extra charge based on a minimum rate or a percentage of the fiscal charges that were advanced or guaranteed is billed to the duty taxpayer.
Mis-Declaration This is charged when the declaration is incorrect and covers the manual process of re-measures and weight confirmation
