Inter-Island Ferry Service
Reduced ferry sailings and limited recovery capacity during weather or unplanned outages means pressure on the Cook Strait network is high. This impacts the entire New Zealand transport industry - affecting any freight relying on road and ferry connections between the North and South Islands.
This may directly impact CapLink, Dangerous Goods and 2-Day Road customers.
Customers with time-sensitive, urgent, or perishable items are encouraged to consider utilise NZC standard next-day delivery, meaning your items travel via our air network (Dangerous Goods cannot travel by air, so please allow a time-buffer where possible).
Update 10am - Tuesday 10th June - New Plymouth Service Delays (State Highway 3 Awakino Gorge)
Awakino Gorge is expected to reopen from midday today.
Minor delivery delays into/out of New Plymouth may continue as services recover.
Further disruption is possible next week while slip removal work takes place.

Tuesday 9th June - New Plymouth Service Delays (State Highway 3 Awakino Gorge)
Awakino Gorge will be closed from 6pm tonight due to a large slip. Delivery delays into New Plymouth are expected tomorrow.
NZTA will reassess the situation first thing in the morning. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Friday 6th March - Lower Hutt Depot remains closed for customer pick-up; drop-offs; cash sales
Storms in February resulted in considerable damage to our Lower Hutt premises. The reception area remains closed and will not be opened until all roofing iron is safely in place.
Our couriers are able to operate safely out of the depot area - courier pick-ups and deliveries resumed on 20 February.

As at June 2026 work on the Gorge continues to create a 30-45 minute delay...
Monday 19th Jan - Slight delays into and out of Gisborne Region / Large slips in the Waioweka Gorge (SH2)
Large slips in the Waioweka Gorge (north of Gisborne) mean that inbound and outbound linehaul runs will need to be diverted (this may result in slight delays for courier items which would usually be moved via SH2 north of Gisborne).
It appears that it will be a number of weeks before this route is accessible.
